Greg Mester Bio

Engineering Growth That Actually Works

Greg Mester has spent more than two decades proving that sustainable growth is not about chasing trends, rigid frameworks, or one-size-fits-all solutions. It is about understanding people, aligning strategy with reality, and building systems that deliver visible results—fast. As president, coach, mentor, and founder of Idea Communication Networks, Inc., Greg helps professionals, executives, and small to mid-
sized businesses dramatically increase their impact, revenue, and effectiveness while reclaiming time, clarity, and enjoyment in their work.

Founded in 1999 and based in Philadelphia, Idea Communication Networks has evolved into a dynamic coaching and advisory firm that blends business growth strategy, Agile thinking, and practical technology adoption. Greg’s work is grounded in deep technical experience, disciplined execution, and an unwavering commitment to helping clients thrive—not just scale.

From High-Stakes Engineering to Strategic Leadership

Greg’s professional journey began in some of the most demanding environments imaginable. As an engineer and project manager, he worked on the U.S. Navy’s F/A-18E/F Jet Fighter Program, contributing to its first flight and the $4 billion low-rate initial production specifications. He later served as a program manager on products supporting the Army’s Bradley Fighting Vehicle and created new
logistical tracking technology that he personally presented to the Under Secretary of the U.S. Navy.

These experiences instilled a results-first mindset: clarity of purpose, accountability, and execution under real constraints. Long before Agile became a buzzword, Greg was delivering complex programs where progress had to be measurable, timelines mattered, and failure was not an option. That foundation continues to shape how he coaches leaders and organizations today.

Agile With a Twist

What distinguishes Greg’s approach is his refusal to treat Agile as doctrine. While many consultants push rigid frameworks, certifications, and “total package” implementations, Greg practices what he calls “Agile with a Twist.” He uses Agile principles as tools, not rules—applying what works and discarding what doesn’t, based on the client’s actual goals, budget, and operating reality.

This philosophy is particularly impactful for small and medium-sized businesses. Greg has seen too many organizations burned by cookie-cutter transformations that promised efficiency, but delivered confusion and overhead. He is often brought in afterward to fix what failed. Sometimes that means preserving useful elements; more often, it requires redesigning the approach entirely.

For SMBs, Greg strips Agile down to its most valuable core: short delivery cycles, visible progress every one to two weeks, continuous feedback, and clear accountability. The result is faster learning, stronger stakeholder confidence, and a direct connection between delivery, funding, and growth.

Coaching That Puts People First

At the heart of Greg’s work is a deep respect for people. His coaching spans corporate executives, career-level professionals, and business owners, but the focus remains consistent: helping individuals understand why they are doing what they are doing. Greg believes Agile fails when it is implemented mechanically, without context or purpose. When people understand the “why,” execution improves naturally.

Through Agile Personal Coaching, Agile Corporate Coaching, and Agile Profit Coaching, Idea Communication Networks helps individuals grow personally, teams become delivery powerhouses, and businesses streamline processes and marketing without unnecessary bureaucracy. Greg and his team take pride in seeing clients flourish, knowing their guidance contributed to measurable progress and renewed confidence.

Author, Educator, and Thought Leader

Greg is also a published author and respected thought leader. He is a co-author of The Change: Insights into Self-Empowerment, Volume 20, featuring forewords by Les Brown, Jim Lutes, and Jim Britt. His book Agile Profit Pathways translates Agile mindset concepts into practical strategies for business growth, while his forthcoming book, Get to the Next Level, continues his mission of helping leaders move beyond plateaus.

Greg’s influence extends through 5amMesterScrum, a social media and idea-exchange platform focused on Agile and Scrum concepts. With more than four million YouTube views, the platform has earned recognition as a Top 10 Leading Speakers to Follow in 2025 and ranked #4 among Top Agile Coaching Podcasts by Feedspot.

Practical AI for Real Businesses

As AI floods the market with bold promises, Greg has positioned himself as a steady, practical guide for SMBs. He cautions against treating AI as magic or a shortcut. Instead, he helps business owners define what they actually need—whether increased efficiency, greater reach, improved customer experience, or revenue growth—and then implements only the AI and automation tools that serve those goals.

Greg’s AI advisory work focuses on removing daily friction: capturing meeting notes, generating marketing and social media ideas, and training AI systems to reflect a company’s authentic voice and audience. By simplifying adoption and explaining concepts in plain language, he empowers entrepreneurs to use AI effectively without needing a tech department.

Looking Ahead: Community and Connection

In 2026, Greg will launch the Philadelphia Business Forum, a mastermind community designed for small business owners who want connection, clarity, and shared learning. The forum will feature weekly hosted sessions, peer idea exchange, and a technology conference specifically tailored to SMBs—focused on practical AI, automation, and business growth without hype. After decades of engineering, coaching, and building, Greg Mester continues to focus on what truly matters: progress that is visible, systems that are usable, and people who feel empowered by the work they do. Through Idea Communication Networks, he is not just helping businesses grow—he is helping
them grow wisely.
